Anxiety
Is your life ruined by constant worry and anxiety about what might happen to you or your loved ones?
Do you spend most of your life worrying about what might happen to you in the future? Do you avoid travelling, social engagements, public speaking, driving tests, exams, spiders and needles etc.?
You may have a specific fear of something, someone or situation, or you might be suffering from a general anxiety disorder or from panic attacks.
We have been treating sufferers of anxiety, phobias and panic attacks since 1994 and so we know and understand how debilitating it can be and how it can seriously impact on the quality of your life. Anxiety is usually caused by looking into the future and anticipating that something untoward will happen. This then triggers off the body’s natural ‘alarm’ system known as the ‘fight or flight’ response, which can be activated whether the threat is real or imaginary.
Excessive and extreme anxiety can often result in a panic attack. If you suffer from panic attacks contact us now. On certain occasions the attack can be so severe that you may think you are having a heart attack.
The symptoms of a panic attack:
- pounding heart
- rapid shallow breathing
- muscle tension
- sweaty palms
- dry mouth
These symptoms can be so distressing and uncomfortable that you may have developed a fear of panic attacks—i.e. ‘a fear of the fear’. Panic attacks can also be a symptom of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). If you suffer from PTSD contact us now.
Phobias are fears that are more specific and may appear totally irrational. Your phobia might have been caused by a specific traumatic event or a series of events experienced early on in your life or it could have been learned from a parent, for example. With a phobia you will have a specific trigger, be it a spider, a dog, heights, open spaces or being trapped etc. whereas, panic attacks can occur at the most unlikely times and for no apparent reason. If you are suffering from a phobia contact us now.
You have two choices; one is to keep on avoiding situations that trigger the anxiety, e.g. avoid getting on a plane if you have a fear of flying, or choose a more positive solution which can be achieved quickly and painlessly using a combination of advanced techniques from the world of hypnotherapy and neuro linguistic programming.
thespencepractice can help you to change your response, boost your confidence, think more positively and achieve deep states of relaxation so that you can regain control of your mind and body.
If you suffer from a phobia, panic attacks, general anxiety disorder, Post Traumatic Stress disorder or performance anxiety we can help you to regain control and improve the quality of your life.
Imagine being free of the fear of flying and opening up a new world of adventure and exploration. “When I came for therapy I was desperate for a solution to my problem. It was wonderful to speak to someone who not only understood my problem, but had the time to listen and a solution. I have regained my confidence and not had a panic attack. Should I have one in the future I will know how to deal with it.” Pat , Brighton
